RUTH BRACE -The Gardening Artist
I have enjoyed art for as long as I can remember. I have fond childhood memories of painting and drawing, encouraged by creative and enthusiastic parents. After studying art at school, I had a long break from doing any kind of artwork, pursuing a career in marketing instead. I missed my art and it was not until many years later when I re-trained as a professional gardener that my creative instincts were re-ignited by the wonderful natural environment that is now my new ‘office’.
I moved to beautiful West Wales a few years ago and live and work in and around Llangrannog, Ceredigion. This has given me the opportunity to pursue the two great loves of my life (apart from my husband of course!) – gardening and art. For the first time I have had the chance to continue my gardening career in conjunction with creating and selling my artwork. The amazing land and seascapes of West Wales offer great inspiration for my work and being a professional gardener, I am surrounded by wonderful plants, flowers, insects and animals, all of which inspire me on a daily basis and inform my art.
I have a keen interest in botanical art and my passion is all in the detail. Working from my own photographs and where possible real life, I try to recreate as accurate a representation of my subject as possible. This can be using a variety of mediums including pen and ink, watercolours or acrylic paints. Most recently I have been further developing my style using fine art printing techniques including drypoint and linocut.
